At Redmond Veterinary Clinic, we have a doctor on call for emergency services 24 hours a day and 7 days a week including holidays. No matter what time of day or night a crisis occurs, our team of professionals are ready.
When an emergency is presented, we first determine how stable the patient is. Often a patient may need immediate care such as oxygen therapy or bleeding controlled before the doctor can perform a complete examination of injuries.
Upon examination, the doctor may determine that more diagnostic tests are required, such as, radiographs or ultrasound. Based on the results of these tests, a treatment plan is than made.
Usually critical care consists of treating for shock by means of intravenous fluids. This helps by keeping the patient hydrated and gives doctors the best access for administering the necessary medications.
The patient is than hospitalized under intensive care including, but not limited to, IV fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, heat therapy, urinary catheterization, feeding tubes, wound care and nursing care.
