Darrin came to Redmond Vet Clinic in 1997 from Oakdale, California. There he completed an internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in which his main focus was on equine lameness and surgery.
Although Darrin came to RVC from California, he is actually a native Oregonian. He grew up in the Portland area and went to the University of Oregon for his undergraduate studies. After that he went on to Oregon State University and Washington State University where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. But don't let the OSU degree fool you. Darrin is a die hard Oregon Duck fan! He is as green as they come!
During the years that Darrin has been at RVC, he has witnessed many changes, mostly in technology. The ability to diagnose more quickly and accurately due to technology is one of the best things that has happened in veterinary medicine. Darrin says that another positive characteristic of the clinic is knowledgeable staff and the wonderful client/clinic relations that RVC maintains. This was one of the aspects that influenced him to become a co-owner in 2000.
When it comes to practicing veterinary medicine, Darrin's main areas of interest are performance horses and equine lameness. This is appropriate considering the fact that Darrin himself now suffers from a leg lameness sustained from a motor cycle accident in 2005. Some client's claim that this is the reason he is so sensitive to the horse's injuries.
Despite the gimp in his gait, Darrin still enjoys team roping, hunting, fishing and watching motor-cross with his wife and two daughters. When he is not busy with work or leisure activities, his own animals keep him occupied. He owns two dogs, four horses, five cats and of course we can't forget the chicken and goats.
Darrin keeps an active membership in such organizations as, American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association and the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association.
