The First Steps Towards Increased Mobility |

When The Pain is Still Present |
Weight Control A professor of mine in school would frequently remind us that there were three ways to control arthritis in animals...Weight Control, Weight Control, Weight Control. If your pet is overweight, you should consider Hill's Prescription r/d diet. |

Non Steroidals Medications such as Metacam, Etogesic, Rimadyl, Previcox , Zubrin, and Deramaxx are excellent sources for long term management of arthritis. Your doctor may wish to monitor your animal with blood work in order to monitor there safety. |
Controlled Exercise This means frequent leash walking. Try to avoid ball chasing and frequent off leash running. |

Adequan Adequan® Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) is a prescription, water-based, intramuscular, polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) that helps prevent the cartilage in your dog’s joint from wearing away. It helps keep the cartilage healthy and intact, so that the bone in the joint cannot touch other bones. |
Diet Hill's® Prescription Diet® j/d™ Canine is an innovative dog food that helps maintain healthy joints and improves mobility in dogs. Its unique formula contains high levels of EPA (Eicosapentanoic Acid), an omega-3 fatty acid found in high concentrations in fish oil. Research has shown that EPA can help maintain joint function. Enhanced levels of glucosamine and chondroitin provide the building blocks of healthy cartilage, and L-carnitine, which helps maintain optimum body weight. j/d™ Canine improves the quality of life by helping dogs run better, play better, and rise more easily. |

IRAP Treatment with Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) utilizes progressive gene therapy to combat osteoarthritis in your dog. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a type of cytokine and is secreted by many types of cells. A cytokine is a chemical secreted by the cells of the immune system to attack infections and apoptotic (damaged or dying) cells. IL-1 is an important part of the inflammatory response but in the case of your dog's joints, sometimes can be detrimental. The joint fluid carries a protein called interleukin-1, which plays an important role in inflammation and accelerates the deterioration of tissues like joint cartilage. Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) blocks IL-1 from binding to tissues and inhibits the damaging consequences of IL-1. |
