Disease Prevention

“...vaccinations certainly remain a medical decision, and procedure that should be individualized based on the risk and lifestyle of the individual...[animal]. Factors to consider include the age, breed, health status, environment, lifestyle, and travel habits of the...[animal].”
Daniel Aja, DVM, AAHA president

Dogs

Healthy and well vaccinated Bulldog
To provide fact-based leadership about this issue, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) published Canine Vaccine Guidelines.  Here are the top 10 things you need to know about these guidelines along with a Vaccine Calculator to help make lifestyle based vaccine decisions.

Cats

Healthy and well vaccinated cat
As a Cat Friendly Practice, Redmond Veterinary Clinic supports The American Association of Feline Practitioners Vaccination Guidelines that provide practical recommendations to help select appropriate vaccination schedules for our feline patients based on risk assessment.

Horses

Healthy and well vaccinated horse
Vaccinating your horse is just one of the steps you can take toward controlling infectious diseases in horses. You should develop a Vaccination Program that includes all of the important components of good managerial practices in the control of disease.

Farm Animals

Healthy and well vaccinated cattle
Vaccination for cattle, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats and swine vary.  Please contact our office and we can help provide guidelines for your animal(s).

Parasite Control

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that between 1 and 3 million people are zoonotically infected with toxocara migrans (roundworms) each year."

It is fairly common for a dog or cat to become infected with an internal or external parasite at some point in its lifetime. Parasites can affect your pet in a variety of ways, ranging from simple irritation to causing life-threatening conditions if left untreated. Some parasites can even infect and transmit diseases to you and your family.  We desire to protect pets and people from parasites.  The Companion Animal Parasite Council (CAPC) has developed
Guidelines for parasite control for your pet and your family.

Nutrition

"Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water … they will think you are God. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are God." -Christopher Hitchens

We suggest that you choose a food that has undergone an AAFCO feeding trial and is formulated for the animals specific life stage.  Redmond Veterinary Clinic recommends Science Diet Pet Foods and Prescription Diets. The company’s commitment to research, for both prescription and life stage diets, along with their strict quality control provide us with the confidence to recommend the products they produce.

Behavior

"Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you later.”  Mary Bly
"A cat will do what it wants when it wants, and there's not a thing you can do about it."
Frank Perkins

Redmond  Veterinary Clinic offers accurate behavioral education to our clients prior to, and when, behavioral problems occur.

Oral Care

"Hot things, sharp things, sweet things, cold things.
All rot the teeth and make them look like old things."
— Benjamin Franklin

Veterinary dentistry includes the cleaning, adjustment, filing, extraction, or repair of animals' teeth and all other aspects of oral health care in animals. Veterinary dentistry requires diagnosis and treatment, and, to be fully effective, demands extensive knowledge of anatomy, anesthesiology, pharmacology, physiology, pathology, radiology, neurology, medicine, and surgery.  Redmond Veterinary Clinic provides education during pediatric visits and during each health exam summarizing the current health of the mouth and appropriate care.

Grooming

Well Groomed Jack Russell
"Cats are the ultimate narcissists. You can tell this because of all the time they spend on personal grooming. Dogs aren't like this.  A dog's idea of personal grooming is to roll in a dead fish."- James P. Gorman

Maintaining a well-groomed animal is an extension of good overall health. Our commitment to uncompromised care extends to promoting the health benefits of a well-groomed animal that includes a more vibrant hair coat, decreased shedding, prevention and detection of skin disease and a stronger client/patient bond. We can recommend options for grooming of your pet.  Regular grooming and the health of your animal compliment each other.
